Financial Proof Rules for Canadian Study Permits

To get your Canadian Study Permit approved, you must prove to the visa officer that you have enough funds to cover tuition, living costs, and travel. Here is the exact breakdown of the bank statement requirements.

The Standard Rule: 1 Year Tuition + Living Expenses (GIC)

For your study permit application, you need to show:

1. First Year Tuition Paid: A receipt showing payment of first-year tuition.

2. GIC of C$20,635: Proof of purchase of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate.

3. Liquidity / Bank Statement: An additional bank statement showing liquid funds of at least C$5,000 to C$10,000 is highly recommended to show you can cover unexpected costs or flights.

Non-SDS vs. SDS Stream

  • Student Direct Stream (SDS): If you apply from Pakistan or India under SDS, you *must* pay 1 full year of tuition and purchase a C$20,635 GIC.
  • Non-SDS Stream: If you apply under Non-SDS, you do not need a GIC, but you must show a massive bank statement of at least C$35,000 to C$45,000 to prove you can support your tuition and living costs.
